Look up! Zeppelin overhead

Annie Mary Howell's family moved to Crosby Row when she was little and she attended Laxton Street School in Long Lane as a girl. She was a bit of a tomboy, and spent most of her time outisde, running around the streets of Bermondsey. One particular evening, when standing on the corner of Weston Street and Leathermarket Street, area full of leather workshops and small factories, she saw a Zeppelin flying overhead. Lit up by searchlights, it made quite an impression on the young Annie, as she described in an interview for the Imperial War Museum nearly fifty years later.
